Empower Your Child
Meet Frilly, a tiny little lizard with three special behaviours. Frilly will show you the strange and very funny things that lizards and children do, and help you understand that some scary things aren’t terrifying at all.
This book comes with stories and tools to help you build your child’s resilience.
“With simple storytelling, Leanne Hardinge delivers a practical guide for children to navigate their natural responses to stress. My Friend Frilly is a valuable resource for parents, therapists, and educators to support early conversations about self-awareness and emotional resilience.”

Where it all Started
“My five year old son Tim was doing it tough. His life was filled with very real fears. We were in Alice Springs, watching frilled-neck lizards at play when one rushed towards us, tiny bicycle legs churning. Its enormous frill dwarfed its skinny body and it hissed furiously.
It would have been terrifying . . . except it was barely a foot high. We both burst out laughing. And it dawned on me that the frilly looked exactly like one of the characters in Tim’s life – all bluster and noise meant to scare. And so the Frilly Analogy was born.
Because it turns out it isn’t just the Frilly’s big bluff that mimics the behaviour of humans. You see, when a frilly is scared it behaves exactly like we do when our brain senses danger and triggers Freeze, Fight or Flight reactions. Frilly became our secret code, allowing Tim to
look at the behaviour of others, adults and children alike, in a very different light.
Since then, I’ve used the analogy in workplaces across the country, helping people put their fears into perspective. Now it’s time for Frilly to help other children, just as Frilly helped Tim.”
